Unconfirmed reports indicate that embattled and Immediate Former Ambassador of Uganda to Canada Joy Ruth Aceng is likely to replace her Australian Counterpart.
In what is being described as a diplomatic swap, a source that prefers anonymity at Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says this is aimed at calming the diplomatic temperatures.
Ambassador Aceng’s troubles began a few days ago when she was filmed in a disagreement with a group of National Unity Platform (NUP) protesters in Canada.
Dressed in a yellow dress which is the official party colour of Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement party, Aceng had a bitter exchange with the protesters.
They shouted slangs and slogans against the Ugandan government over what they claimed were human rights violations.
As a result, the authorities in Canada declared the Ambassador a “persona non grata”, citing what they described as misconduct.
Reports indicate that she has since returned to Uganda awaiting a Swap deployment to Australia.
Currently, the High Commissioner of Uganda to Australia is Her Excellency Dorothy Hyuha. She is expected to replace Aceng in Canada. Watch the space!
